5THIS IS NOT A TOY! DO NOT FLY INDOORS OR AROUND PEOPLE!
By nomex
let me start off by saying: THIS IS NOT A TOY, IT IS NOT A BEGINNER HELI!

I bought this helicopter after a few months of training on a co-axial Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter, then a Fixed Pitch Nine Eagles Solo Pro (aka Revell ProtoMax). Seeing that the mCPX was similar in size, I decided to purchase the RTF version as I didn't have a transmitter that could bind n fly. This is a challenging helicopter to fly, so I seriously recommend getting a flight training simulator. Don't let the small size fool you, this helicopter's rotors can generate some headspeed that can draw blood, hence my warning not to fly it around people.

This helicopter is very crash resilient providing that you fly over some nice fluffy grass, and know when to hit the throttle hold/kill switch. This will keep the motor from spinning and ripping up the rotors and other things when you have to make an emergency landing. In the event you do have to crash, some things to examine are the Main Gear (which may have pushed down, just push it back up and is snug), make sure all your swash plate connectors are there (some people thread them together with floss so they don't fly off and get lost - buy extras), and make sure your tail is aligned, as it may have rotated out of alignment.

This helicopter can get away from you quickly, and if you're used to the self-correcting stableness of a fixed pitch, you're in for a shock as this heli will keep going even if you let off the cyclic. For example, a bad habit I picked up with my fixed pitch was that I was always tapping the sticks like some kind of nervous twitch to maintain hover. If you do that on this helicopter, it will continue going in the last direction you tapped unless you give it an equal amount of cyclic.

Since this helicopter is flybarless (FBL), you will not need to adjust trim. Just make sure that when you bind, that the helicopter is more or less level. If you try to adjust trim during flight, the helicopter will interpret these adjustments as stick inputs.

When you take off with this helicopter, you'll want to do it fairly quickly, otherwise, it will topple over (and damage the rotors, links, gears), or it will just skate on the ground. Just spool up quickly and let it hop up.

I'm very happy with my purchase of this helicopter and it really aids in the training of Collective Pitch helicopters. It's fairly crash resistant, but make sure you get some swash links, a spare mainshaft, and maybe some blades and tail rotors.

5Review from a newb (noob)
By jcar302
I heard all the naysayers that this heli is not for someone that has only had the $20 heli from costco, but as usual i ignored everyone, got it anyway.

So far i find it to be fun and rewarding to fly, just be aware of a few things.
1. Do NOT fly it in your house, unless you live in a gymnasium. It moves too fast and when you hit solid objects, that's how you break it or whatever you hit.
2. Do NOT fly it near yourself or other people, tried landing it in my hand like i did with that $20 costco chopper, took about 2 weeks for the deep cut it made in my finger to heal (obviously i have to learn things the hard way). When people say it will draw blood, they are NOT lying.
3. Buy phoenix simulator so you can practice on bad days, it's helpful and fun.

Here's some things you will want or need as spares and upgrades. Nobody had a list, so i made one.

a. Plenty of dog bones (or whatever you call them), i'd keep at least 20 on hand, don't worry they are cheap.
b. At least one set of blades, although i haven't broken any since i stopped flying it in the house.
c. Buy the microheli aluminum swashplate, the plastic one isn't tough enough (again broke it in the house, but others say they break outside).
d. Next get the microheli anti rotation shaft with gear. The stock gear loosens up when you crash and you keep having to push it back on. The good microheli one eliminates this.
e. Buy a whole bunch of stock skids, don't waste time or money on the Carbon and aluminum, i either broke or lost the screws to all of them. They are also heavy and fall out. Money is better spend on a whole bunch of stockers.
f. Grab a few extra batteries, they are cheap.
g. Buy the extended tail boom, the stock one is a hollow piece of crap.

One last thing, my radio wouldn't work with phoenix even though it should. Called horizon, they sent me a label and about a week later i had a brand new one at my door. They have a good rep that is proven to stand behind their products. That's a big plus.

5THIS HELI ROCKS!!!!
By D.I.Y. Soup
I don't understand most of the negative reviews on this heli. Know that in this hobby you will learn mechanic skills and learning takes practice. A mass produced helicopter is not going to be 100% perfect out of the box. You still need to look it over for safety and to avoid premature damage. Don't be swayed by the (Advanced Pilot) only reviews. This was my first CP heli as a complete newb and it has taught me more than any other heli I own. For example it took me 2 weeks to get mine airborne when I first got it. They don't work the way you think that they do. You will need to read and have some patience, both of these attributes is something you are going to need and fine tune in this hobby anyway. You can fly the mCP X as a new pilot. It will teach you a ton and makes the learning so much fun. I do highly recommend this heli. It is a lot of fun and a great learning tool. If you are considering this one and find yourself a little scared from all of the reviews, then check out the Blade Nano CP X. Additionally, when you get bored with it in its stock form. This heli will get you started learning how to modify and customize as well. This is such a diverse helicopter with so much to teach you. You can go to diysoup.com/do-it-yourself/hobby/remote-control-helicopters/blade-mcp-x/ to get you started on reading and to show you some of the ways you can customize this awesome heli.
